The course for a 5K is 3.1 miles. 

At Girls on the Run, we celebrate every step—this 5K is all about joy, accomplishment, and having FUN! 🎉💖

While some of our speedy participants may finish the course in about 25 minutes, most will cross the finish line in 30-50 minutes. And here’s the best part: there’s no “right” way to participate! Whether you walk, roll, push, run, or skip, we encourage everyone to move at their happy pace and enjoy every moment of this amazing journey! 🌈🏃‍♀️

At Girls on the Run, we understand that sometimes unexpected circumstances can make it tough to attend the 5K. 💜

That said, we strongly encourage all participants to join us and complete the 5K! This is the big moment teams have been preparing for all season long—it’s the ultimate chance to celebrate hard work, build confidence, and experience the joy of accomplishing a big goal. 🎉✨

For many, this will be their very first 5K—including participants, coaches, friends, and family members. Let’s show up for each other, cheer each other on, and cross that finish line together. Because at GOTR, we’re all in this together! 🌈🏃‍♀️💖

For safety reasons, every participant must wear a race bib (provided by the council). Our council ensures every participant has a running buddy, and only critical 5K volunteers have access to confidential information.

To ensure every participant crosses the finish line, we monitor the course with the help of volunteers and Amatuer Radio clubs along with EMS support.  We have a team of roving course marshalls (sparkle runners, who encourage girls that have lost their buddies and help them to the finish line. We also have a sparkle finish team who will be the last people to cross our finish line to ensure that the course is clear and that none of the girls are "last".Our council has a safety plan in place,  and has police and EMS support on site.

We do our best to create an inclusive and enjoyable experience for all participants. If you have concerns or specific needs, please don’t hesitate to reach out—we’re happy to attempt to make any necessary modifications to ensure a safe and fun event.

A Running Buddy is a superstar who joins a Girls on the Run participant for the entire 5K, providing safety, encouragement, and LOTS of cheering along the way! 🎉💖

Whether it’s high-fives at every mile or pep talks to keep the energy flowing, Running Buddies are there to make sure every girl feels supported, inspired, and unstoppable! 🏃‍♀️✨

We recommend Running Buddies be at least 16 years old to help guide and motivate their GOTR participant throughout this amazing adventure.

Great question! Running Buddies are such an important part of the 5K experience — you provide encouragement, safety, and an unforgettable sense of teamwork for every GOTR participant. 💖

Your GOTR girl’s season registration already includes one Buddy Runner bib at no extra cost. This complimentary registration covers:

👟 Entry into our inspiring and energetic 5K
🎉 All event logistics (water stations, course safety, finish-line celebrations)
✨ A race bib

No additional steps are required — the included Buddy Runner registration is automatically added through your girl’s program fee.

What the complimentary Buddy Runner registration does not include:
– Event t-shirt
– Finisher medal
– Additional Buddy Runners

If you'd like a GOTR 5K shirt, a finisher medal, or plan to have more than one Buddy Runner with your girl, please register through the regular 5K registration.
